While fellow nominees certainly put their best foot forward, Orkney however stole the coveted award, beating Bath and The Lake District, swooping the title for “most romantic destination in the UK”. Remotely positioned and with over 70 islands, Orkney has long had the makings of a romantic destination. Home to the iconic Ring of Brodgar, the stunning Italian Chapel and with gorgeous sandy beaches, it is no coincidence Orkney has been recognised as a haven for romantics. “We are great at creating unforgettable experiences and lifelong memories, Orkney’s success as a romantic tourist destination has finally been recognised,” says Kirsty Mainland head of Orkney Tourism Group.
Accepting the award, Eric Witham of Eric Witham Design & Marketing says, “As the only Scottish destination within the category, this is truly an outstanding win.” The creative agency behind the marketing and communication for Visit Orkney share yet another win to their mantelpiece, highlighting their expertise within this sector. Eric further highlights his delight saying “It’s been absolutely fantastic to watch Orkney go from strength-to-strength with absolutely no slow down. Already this year we are anticipating over 150,000 visitors to the islands”.
